Spanking Abuse?
A woman in Iowa was ticketed at an Independence Day parade by police for child abuse. Her crime was spanking her young child who kept running out into the street against her mother's warnings. Some "concerned witnesses" who don't believe in spanking gave their statements to police. Besides this strong-willed preschooler, the mother had 2 other children to watch at this parade. You could see on camera that the child was very disobedient and the mother was trying her best. It is bad enough that there are so many people who do not mind their own business and make it harder for parents than it already is, but I am shocked that these police officers gave this woman a ticket for a form of discipline that has been commonly used in this country for centuries! This child was too young to reason with! There is a difference between spanking a pre-teen and a young child who is not listening and running into the street.
I am not really a big fan of spanking. However, I do not consider it abuse. There is a bigger issue here. It is bad enough that we are losing religious rights with each passing year. Now our children no longer seem to be our children in America. I have heard of many cases where people were reported to some child protective agency because someone didn't know what they were looking at and these agencies have way too much power. If I were raising children today, and one of them was as strong-willed as this little girl is, or as my son was, I would not take them out in large crowds like there were at that parade. And I would never send them to public school! Apparently we cannot discipline our own children anymore. And yet if they do something wrong, we are responsible for it! In America, parents hands are tied and then blamed for it!
There are those who feel that this case will be thrown out. I sure hope so! Are we going to arrest most of the parents in the nation? As far as I know, spanking is still commonly used, especially in situations like this. How do you give a child a time out at a crowded parade? Why didn't the nosy people who reported the incident tell the child to listen to her mother and why didn't police do the same? The woman is threatening a civil suit. I hope she does and I hope she wins!
